Recently, I was lucky enough to catch up with Mary Johnson – a.k.a. MEGNUTT – one of our most popular and widely-read writers. Who is she, what inspires her, and how does she feel about her sudden fame on Medium? I put these questions and more to her in a telephone interview
What do you love about your followers?
My followers are more than just fans. They’re my friends and family. We’ve been through a lot together over these past few years, and I love having that community to turn to for support, inspiration, and motivation. Without them, I would never have accomplished what I have today. And without you, my followers, there wouldn’t be any megnutt02!
Since we are all on Facebook (myself included), we can all join in on discussions about anything going on in our lives or our communities. From photos of new babies to pictures of big birthdays parties to stories about new Online Jobs and college graduations—I love hearing from you guys and reading your stories!
What are your favorite photos, videos, and blogs?
I have a couple of favorites on my Instagram account, @mgnuttrs. I love to travel and capture sunsets, food pics and selfies. My go-to hashtags are #vacation (I’m not ashamed), #instafood and #bloggerlife. I really enjoy seeing other blogger’s work because it’s inspiring. Sometimes it makes me want to travel or try something new!

How did you get into this niche market?
It was only 2 years ago when I started my site, but I’ve been interested in cooking since I was a kid. I think it just goes to show that anyone can be successful if they put their mind to it! Cooking has always been one of my passions. My mom taught me how to cook at a young age, and ever since then it’s been my thing. Now that I live on my own, food prep has become super important because I have no one else to cook for.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
I think in five years time I’ll have a much better handle on what it means to be a family man. As it stands, I’m fairly new to being married, and while I love my wife dearly, I still struggle with who she really is. After all, we all have different sides to us that only our closest friends and family ever get to see.
What advice would you give to anyone getting started today?
Don’t let fear hold you back. You need to be willing to take risks, and I’m not talking about breaking a leg or messing up your hair color (although you will probably do that eventually). If there’s something in life you want to accomplish but are afraid to try, then don’t think of it as fear think of it as hesitation. Set up some goals, get started on one thing at a time, and challenge yourself along the way.
