Need for Speed is a popular racing video game franchise, and there are modifications fans created for the game such as Project Unite (or UNITE for short) which have been circulating in the racing community.
Musician and animator Devin Millar created a song and music video under this YouTube channel to celebrate this mod’s release. The song is titled “Unite” and is animated as we are taken into the video game world with the gender-non-conforming character Jack. The song encourages peace and joy with a positive message, and how the world can be like a video game too.
The song pays homage to Need for Speed and it’s fan modifications through a 90s-inspired racing game anthem. Project Unite and the UNITE Team are particularly centered, as well as Frosty Editor, which was the modification tool used to create it. The song also references the program’s usage in a wacky cartoon way.
The song and it’s music video were released on August 3, 2021, all over streaming services and onto Devin’s YouTube channel. The song is a huge success and has been viewed many times on YouTube.
“I wanna live like Project Unite” Devin sings in the song.
